Faith, Rituals and Cultural Identity: A Study of the Malayali Tribe in Palamalai, Tamil Nadu

Abstract	This study examines the worship practices of the Malayali indigenous community living in the Palamalai region, located within the Kolathur taluk of Salem district, Tamilnadu. Specifically, this research investigates their presiding deities and traditions, including Chellandiyamman, Koyilveedu (temple-house) worship, Sitteswarar, Sri Thainattu Mahamariamman, village-specific worship and Senrayaperumal worship, along with their associated beliefs. Data were gathered through field surveys, interviews and secondary sources. This study highlights the spiritual life of the Palamalai people, the social solidarity maintained through their religious beliefs and their cultural identity.
