| Abstract | The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) scheme, launched in August 2014, aimed to provide universal access to financial services, primarily to the unbanked and underserved population in India. This research paper evaluates the role of PMJDY in financial inclusion between 2015 and 2025, concentrating on important indicators such as the total number of accounts opened, total deposits, and Rupay Debit Cards issued across Public Sector Banks (PSBs), Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), and Private Sector Banks (PVBs). The findings reveal a significant and consistent increase in financial inclusion during the study period, with total accounts rising from 14.5 crore in 2015 to nearly 55 crore by 2025. Deposits under the scheme grew markedly from Rs. 14.6 lakh crore to Rs. 26 lakh crore, reflecting increasing trust and participation in the institutional banking system. Public sector banks played a leading role, while Regional Rural Banks significantly expanded their outreach. Although Private sector Banks showed gradual growth, their overall contribution remains limited. The study concludes that PMJDY not only bridges the gap between the urban-rural financial divide but also strengthens the digital payment infrastructure through Rupay Debit Cards. The scheme has proven to be a cornerstone of inclusive financial development, offering insights into policy-driven financial inclusion along with its broader social and economic implications. |
