Author(s) Dr. Mahalakshmi S, Ms. Preksha R Doshi

Abstract The concept of emerging adulthood (usually between 18 and 29 years of age) is becoming more widely recognized as a unique time of life that involves increased identity exploration, role instability and greater opportunities for personality development. This article draws on the latest findings in the field of personality change, identity development, emotion-regulation skills and socio-contextual factors to provide a multi-dimensional perspective on personality growth in emerging adulthood. Based on longitudinal and cross-cultural research, it is our claim that personality does not simply ‘stabilize’ but changes in maturation ways influenced by lived experiences, relational processes and culture. Finally, implications for developmental psychology, clinical practice and life-span interventions to foster adaptive personality paths are mentioned.
Keywords Emerging adulthood, personality growth, identity exploration, emotional regulation.
