Dust Deposition on Leaf and Its Impact on Chlorophyll Production in Calotropis Gigantea and Cassia Siamea Growing in Vicinity of Stone Crusher

Abstract Blade surface of plant is continuously exposed to the Environs and is the main receptor of dust. Dust affects the photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration and allows the penetration of harmful plant gases pollutants. The present study was conducted the seasonal variation in dust settling on leaves and its impact on chlorophyll content of two tree species namely Calotropis gigantea and Cassia siamea. This research was carried out during the month of May 2021 to April 2023 on two tree species in the region of stone crusher area. Authors found that crusher dust had a consequential effect on the photosynthetic pigments such as chlorophyll 'a', chlorophyll 'b' and total chlorophyll content. Most dust fall occurred during winter followed by summer and rainy season in both plant species. The authors reported a significant negative correlation between dust load and chlorophyll content in all seasons. Calotropis gigantea showed more dust accumulation rates in comparison to Cassia siamea. Thus, plants can be used in the abatement of dust pollution as they act as natural filters
