Shadow Banking:  The Hidden Network Shaping Global Finance

Abstract	The term shadow banking was coined by economist Paul McCulley in 2007. It describes a wide range of organisations that help lend and borrow money without following the same traditional banking rules. Unlike commercial banks, which take deposits from the public, shadow banks raise money from investors and use it to extend credit, often faster and more flexibly than regulated institutions can.
