AI-Enabled Libraries: Transforming Information Services in the Digital Age

Author(s) Ms. MANGAL Anil PATIL
Country India
Abstract Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming traditional libraries into smart and intelligent knowledge hubs. This article examines the evolution of libraries and the use of AI technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and generative AI. These technologies improve information retrieval, digitisation, metadata creation, reference services, and research support. AI also promotes knowledge democratisation through wider, faster, multilingual, and personalised access to information. However, challenges such as privacy, copyright, bias, misinformation, cost, and the digital divide remain significant. The article highlights the need for ethical AI adoption, professional training, and human oversight to develop inclusive and sustainable library services.
Keywords Artificial Intelligence, AI-enabled libraries, digital libraries, knowledge democratisation, machine learning, natural language processing, generative AI, library automation, research support, information science, India
