| Abstract | Today child sexual abuse (CSA) remains a pervasive social issue with profound psychological, physical, and emotional impacts on victims. Education and awareness initiatives are critical in mitigating this crisis by equipping children, parents, educators, and communities with the knowledge and tools to identify, prevent, and address such incidents. The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, enacted in India, aims to provide a robust legal framework for the protection of children against sexual offenses, ensure child-friendly judicial processes, and promote awareness programs in schools and communities. This study evaluates the implementation of the POCSO Act in educational institutions and community settings, emphasizing its role in prevention through awareness and education. Using a mixed-method approach, the research examines the effectiveness of awareness campaigns, the integration of child protection policies in schools, and community engagement initiatives. Key findings highlight the successes and gaps in sensitization programs, the role of educators in fostering safe spaces, and the challenges of addressing cultural and systemic barriers. The study underscores the need for sustained efforts in training stakeholders, monitoring implementation, and enhancing the curriculum to include age-appropriate sexual education. It concludes with recommendations for strengthening the synergy between legal frameworks, educational policies, and community participation to create a safer environment for children. |
