| Abstract | Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) cultivation has emerged as a highly lucrative venture for farmers in the arid and semi-arid regions of Karnataka due to its high export potential and drought-tolerant nature. In this context, the researcher has made an effort to analyze the economic aspects of pomegranate cultivation in Karnataka's Chitradurga District. This study systematically evaluates the establishment and operational costs, economic returns, and overall financial viability of pomegranate orchards in the region. Primary data were collected from selected pomegranate growers using a structured questionnaire, which helped in analyzing key economic indicators such as Net Present Value (NPV), Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR), and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). The findings reveal that despite the high initial capital investment and challenges like bacterial blight and water scarcity, pomegranate cultivation yields substantial net returns, making it an economically viable and profitable enterprise for local farmers. The study concludes with policy recommendations aimed at improving credit access, providing subsidized inputs, and developing robust marketing infrastructure to support the growth and sustainability of pomegranate production in the district, ultimately benefiting local economies. |
