Abstract In Kerala, local self-governance institutions (LSGIs) are mandated to implement and fund programs aimed at uplifting women's welfare through the Women Component Plan (WCP), which ensures that women occupy 50% of all positions. Although elected women officials play a pivotal role in these programs, their insights and experiences have not been extensively recognized. This study explores the backgrounds of female elected officials, evaluates their opinions on the effectiveness of women-focused initiatives in improving women's social status, and investigates their views on prevalent gender roles in society.
