Country India
Abstract Financial Inclusion is the cornerstone of India's economic development. The COVID-19 pandemic, while a global crisis, acted as an unprecedented stress test and catalyst for India's financial inclusion architecture. This case study examines how the JAM Trinity (Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile), Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) enabled the Government of India to execute the world's largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) program during the lockdown, transferring over Rs. 30,000 crore to women Jan Dhan account holders under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY). The study analyses data from 2019 (Pre-COVID) to 2024 (Post-COVID) to demonstrate how COVID-19 accelerated digital adoption, transforming financial inclusion from physical access to digital empowerment. The case provides managerial lessons on crisis management, digital public infrastructure .
