AI-Driven Decision Intelligence in Strategic Business Decision-Making: A Narrative Review Integrating Predictive Analytics, Generative AI, and Prescriptive Optimization

| Abstract | Artificial Intelligence is becoming increasingly important for strategic decision-making, but the research literature on predictive analytics, generative AI, and prescriptive optimization is scattered. They have evolved independently and there are limited studies on how they can operate in concert in an integrated decision architecture. This paper aims to fill that gap in the literature in a narrative review of the 34 peer-reviewed sources. The review identifies that the interfaces between the three streams are real but weak, and each interface poses a translation challenge that cannot be addressed through technical solutions. The effort of integrating was met with three tensions: epistemic authority, governance and accountability, and organizational capability. To address this, the paper suggests a decision intelligence framework that aligns the three streams to be complementary capabilities in a sequenced decision journey. The framework treats governance and the organizational setting as operating together as one, separating this model from already existing models that operate on the separation of technical from organizational matters. |
