Sustainable Finance and Banks Performance: Evidence from Selected Indian Banks

Author(s) Ms. Trinayana Gohain
Country India
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to study the trend of sustainable finance and its impact on the financial performance of selected Indian banks.Sustainable finance has been measured based on green loan and sustainable finance normalised by total assets to total advances. The findings revealed that only a few banks in India have adopted sustainable finance policy. However, a significant increase in sustainable finance policy has been observed over the years which depicts that banks have started to invest more in environmentally viable projects and will continue to do so in the near future. It was also observed that private sector banks outperform public sector banks in terms of investment in sustainable finance projects. The study finds a positive relationship between sustainable finance and banks' performance.
