Mapping Philosophical Counseling: Concepts, Methods, and Contemporary Applications

| Abstract | Abstract: Philosophical counseling is an emerging field of applied philosophy that connects philosophical reflection with the practical concerns of everyday life. This paper examines its concept, major characteristics, methods, process, and contemporary relevance. It presents philosophical counseling as a dialogical, reflective, conceptual, normative, and practical practice that enables individuals to examine their beliefs, assumptions, values, arguments, and ways of living. Particular attention is given to self-discovery, existential self-counseling, and the Five Whys as a reflective technique for exploring deeper values, motivations, and concerns. The paper also examines different philosophical conceptions of well-being and argues that counseling should not impose a single model of the good life. Philosophical counseling can thus contribute to self-understanding, rational autonomy, and meaningful living while maintaining clear boundaries with psychotherapy and other specialized professional services. |
| Keywords | Keywords: Philosophical counseling, philosophical practice, methods, dialogue, well-being, self-examination. |
