| Abstract | Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has emerged as one of the most transformative technological innovations of the twenty-first century, significantly influencing education, research, and knowledge creation. Unlike traditional AI systems that primarily analyze data, Generative AI can create original content such as text, images, audio, video, programming code, and research summaries. In the educational sector, GenAI is reshaping teaching and learning by enabling personalized learning experiences, intelligent tutoring systems, automated assessment, content development, and multilingual educational resources. In the field of research, it assists scholars in conducting literature reviews, generating research ideas, analyzing data, improving academic writing, and facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration. Despite these advantages, the rapid adoption of GenAI raises important ethical concerns, including academic integrity, plagiarism, algorithmic bias, data privacy, copyright protection, transparency, and overdependence on AI-generated content. In India, initiatives such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Digital India Mission, National Digital Education Architecture (NDEAR), Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 provide a strong policy framework for integrating AI into education and research. This paper adopts a qualitative, descriptive, and analytical approach based on an extensive review of academic literature, policy documents, and institutional reports. It examines the multidisciplinary applications of Generative AI, discusses its educational and research benefits, analyses ethical challenges, and proposes recommendations for its responsible implementation. The study concludes that the successful integration of Generative AI requires a balanced approach that combines technological innovation with ethical governance, digital inclusion, AI literacy, and human oversight to enhance the quality of education and research in India. |
