| Abstract | Abstract Foreign direct investment is a multifaceted phenomenon that demands thorough investigation to unlock it's potential for economic development. It is an eminent factor in driving economic growth and development. Foreign direct investment requires a serious consideration for its development. Countries which give due importance to the development of FDI experiences better development than the countries which does not. The important objectives of our present study are to analyse the pattern and trends in FDI in India as well as sector wise contribution of FDI and to check whether FDI has any significant impact on the GDP. The present study revealed that the FDI have undergone several changes over the years under consideration. It shows an increasing trend over some years and on the other hand the FDI falls in a higher magnitude in some other years. We have interpreted that FDI have a positive and significant impact on GDP. Therefore, we have understood that FDI may plays a dominant role in the GDP. Several sectors have experienced positive impact from FDI while some others were not being benefited from FDI. This becomes clear from the sector wise study of FDI inflows. |
