Abstract In the delivery of healthcare services, dentists are legally and ethically bound to follow specific protocols to avoid malpractice allegations. Medical records, recognized under the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, serve as crucial legal documentation. Transparency in disclosing treatment details and adherence to standard care practices are essential to prevent negligence. Dental negligence may be challenged under civil, criminal, or consumer protection laws. Reimbursement insurance plays a vital role in covering legal expenses. Despite the legal implications, studies reveal that many dental professionals lack awareness of the regulations governing their practice. This underscores the need to incorporate medico-legal education into dental training, ensuring informed and responsible practice for the benefit of patients, professionals, and society.
