Digital Literacy and Women Entrepreneurs in Southern Rajasthan

| Abstract | This paper develops a case study of business-related digital literacy among women entrepreneurs in seven districts of Southern Rajasthan. Its starting point is a central distinction: access to a phone or payment application does not establish the ability to use digital tools independently for business tasks. The chapter on which the paper is based defines digital literacy across five domains: basic device operation, internet and information use, online marketing, digital financial literacy, and digital communication and content creation. It also separates entrepreneurship effectiveness, perceived business performance, and economic empowerment, while treating social, financial, access, and technology barriers as contextual conditions. The case is bounded geographically to Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Dungarpur, Banswara, Pratapgarh, and Salumber. The underlying study specifies a purposively recruited survey of 300 women entrepreneurs and approximately 20–25 semi-structured interviews, using a cross-sectional mixed-method design. This paper contributes a coherent case-study logic, a measurement map, and an analysis plan that connect these elements without claiming results that are not present in the source chapter. The propositions address capability, business outcomes, empowerment, and the potential conditioning role of barriers. The design can identify sample distributions and associations, but it cannot by itself establish temporal order or causality. The paper therefore provides a publication-oriented framework for reporting the eventual empirical analysis and for interpreting it within the limits of the available evidence. |
