Abstract This study examined the community-based initiatives, sustainability strategies, and challenges encountered by State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Panay. It specifically assessed the extent to which SUCs implement community-based initiatives and sustainability strategies, determined the challenges encountered in their implementation, and examined the relationships among the major study variables. A descriptive-correlational research design was employed. Data were gathered from selected respondents representing SUCs in Panay using a researcher-developed questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the level of community-based initiatives, sustainability strategies, and challenges, while appropriate inferential statistics were employed to determine the significant relationships among the variables. The findings revealed that SUCs demonstrated strong community-based initiatives, particularly in education, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, gender and development advocacy, and community development. Sustainability strategies were likewise strongly implemented, particularly in terms of strategic alignment, stakeholder participation, community involvement, and expert engagement. However, relatively lower assessments were observed in initiatives related to peace, safety, and social responsibility and in the diversification of funding and resource sources. The results further showed a significant positive relationship between community-based initiatives and sustainability strategies, indicating that stronger community engagement is associated with stronger sustainability practices. However, the challenges encountered were not significantly related to either community-based initiatives or sustainability strategies. The study concludes that sustained stakeholder engagement, stronger partnerships, diversified resource mobilization, and enhanced institutional support are essential for strengthening sustainable university-community initiatives.
