| Abstract | This study examines India’s macroeconomic and structural transformation and its association with economic growth and manufacturing productivity during 1985-2022. Using secondary data and descriptive analysis, it evaluates capital formation, human capital, financial development, FDI, trade, technology, R&D, infrastructure, and macroeconomic conditions. The main finding is that, despite substantial improvement in India’s structural and macroeconomic foundations, manufacturing total factor productivity remained low and highly volatile, recording an average growth of only about 0.38% over the study period. Major fluctuations in productivity were associated with periods of economic reforms and domestic and global shocks. The findings highlight the need to strengthen productive investment, technological adoption, innovation, human capital, financial intermediation, and macroeconomic stability to achieve sustained improvements in manufacturing productivity and economic growth. |
