A Critical Analysis of Plato’s Philosophical Thought: A Geographical Approach

Abstract This paper aims to critically analysis Plato as a philosopher of Geography. Plato’s contribution as a philosopher towards the growth of geographical science is also a part of the analysis. Plato’s conception about earth and regions put such impact on the study of Geography. Plato analysed geographical conditions as factors of development of society. His deep philosophical thought on climate, terrain, agricultural resources, locations and regions reveals connections between communities and nature. He put much emphasis on education, morality, political institutions, social organizations to shape a society. Plato’s concepts of Phaedo, Timaeus, environment, ideal state, influence of the sea still seeks critical analysis.
