| Abstract | Indian Knowledge Systems [IKS] have gained renewed importance after National Education Policy 2020. This conceptual paper decodes Kautilya's Arthashastra [c. 4th century BCE] from the lens of Investment Analysis and Management. While modern finance attributes portfolio theory to Markowitz and leadership theories to 20th century scholars, this paper argues that core principles of diversification, risk management, treasury management and ethical leadership were systematically codified by Kautilya. Using hermeneutic content analysis of Kangle and Rangarajan translations, the study identifies principles such as Kosh Vriddhi, Vividh Aya, Desha-Kala-Patra Pariksha, and Aapad Dharma. It also analyses Saptanga theory and Rajarshi leadership model. A comparative framework linking Kautilyan sutras to modern concepts of portfolio management, behavioural finance and ESG investing is developed. The study also integrates faculty perspective on IKS adoption [Udupa & Kumar, 2024] to justify the pedagogical need for such frameworks. The paper concludes that Kautilya provides a culturally rooted, ethical and practical model for MBA teaching in Investment Management.[1952][1972][1992] |
