The Necropolitics of Eden: Climate Apartheid and the Illusion of Sanctuary in Roz Dineen's "Briefly Very Beautiful"

Author(s) Dr. S.P. Visalakshi
Country India
Abstract This article reads through necropolitics and postcolonial theories of displacement. It argues that the novel recasts the climate apocalypse as a continuation of colonial extraction and of the uneven distribution of death. Drawing on Achille Mbembe's account of necropolitical sovereignty and Rob Nixon's idea of slow violence, the article examines how the "Black Box" government and the eco-fascist movement Gaia enforce a regime of climate apartheid.
Keywords climate fiction, necropolitics, climate apartheid, slow violence, eco-fascism, maternal body
