Victim Support, Rehabilitation and Access to Justice for Elderly Women in the Digital Era: A Critical Study of Legal Protection in India

Author(s) Ms. JULIMOL P R, Prof. Dr. SANJAYA CHOUDHURY
Country India
Abstract My paper focuses on victim support, rehabilitation, and access to justice for elderly women in India’s digital era. The rapid growth of digital technology has made elderly women increasingly vulnerable to cyber fraud, identity theft, financial exploitation, online harassment, impersonation, and privacy violations.
The paper examines whether the existing Indian legal and institutional mechanisms are adequate to protect elderly women from these emerging forms of victimisation. It particularly highlights challenges such as limited digital literacy, underreporting, lack of awareness, difficulties in filing cyber complaints, evidentiary problems, investigation delays, and inadequate victim-support services. JULI-ABSTRACT
The paper argues that protection should not be limited to punishing offenders. A victim-centred and rights-based approach is required, including accessible reporting mechanisms, legal assistance, psychological support, financial recovery, rehabilitation, and digital literacy. It also recommends stronger institutional coordination and age- and gender-sensitive policies to ensure dignity, security, rehabilitation, and meaningful access to justice for elderly women.
