Financial Inclusion and Digital Banking Adoption: An Empirical Analysis of Consumer Perception and Friction Factors in Regional Commercial Hubs

| Abstract | This paper empirically investigates the key determinants of digital banking adoption and financial inclusion within regional commercial markets in Haryana, India. Driven by national initiatives such as Digital India and the expansion of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) infrastructure, financial ecosystems are undergoing rapid structural digitization. However, significant adoption disparities persist between metropolitan and semi-urban or rural commerce sectors. Anchored in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), this study evaluates the joint predictive influence of digital financial literacy and perceived transaction security on overall adoption frequency. A structured quantitative survey was administered across a stratified sample of N = 200 retail consumers, local merchants, and commercial banking clients in the Rohtak region. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that digital financial literacy (β = 0.485, p < 0.001) and perceived security (β = 0.312, p < 0.001) together account for 61.0% (R² = 0.610) of the variance in digital banking adoption. The findings demonstrate that functional operational capability serves as the primary catalyst for transaction frequency, while cybersecurity concerns act as a critical secondary moderator. Recommendations are provided for banking institutions, commercial enterprises, and regulatory policymakers seeking to enhance customer retention and deepen regional financial inclusion. |
