Complicitous Critique: A Dialogic Study of Agha Shahid Ali's "Postscript to Little Red Riding Hood" and Carol Ann Duffy's "Little Red Cap"

Author(s) Dr. MOHAMMAD Ashraf NAJAR
Country India
Abstract The research paper is a study of two poems - - - Agha Shahid Ali's "Postscript to Little Red Riding Hood" and Carol Ann Duffy's "Little Red Cap". The two poems respond to the European folktale of a girl named Red who becomes the victim of a wolf. Both the poems are a revisiting and rewriting of history from their own standpoints yet converging on many points thus creating a sustained intertextual narrative. The paper applies Linda Hutcheon's concept of "complicitous critique" on the two poems and shows how critiquing (in this case against patriarchy)in the post-truth world has become problematic because all the archimedean points have become undesirable as well as impossible.
