Abstract Abstract
Scheduled Tribes are geographically, socially isolated and economically marginalized communities. In the post-Independence period, sincere and concerted efforts were made for the economic and educational development of tribals. Despite these efforts the performance of the tribes in education is much lower than the Scheduled Castes. As the studies on tribal education suggests that the policy makers approach paid little attention to culturally linked education. This has led to drop outs and directly impacted their overall educational status.
