| Abstract | Trisugandha Arka is a classical Ayurvedic distillate described in Arka Prakasha, Chaturtha Shataka, verse 5, containing Twak, Ela and Patra, and indicated for Mukhadourgandhya and Malabhedana. This study aimed to establish its organoleptic, physicochemical and chromatographic parameters for standardization and quality control. The formulation was prepared according to the classical procedure and evaluated for organoleptic characters, clarity, volatile matter, specific gravity, refractive index, pH, viscosity and total acidity. HPTLC profiling of the n-hexane fraction was performed using pre-coated silica gel F254 plates with toluene:ethyl acetate (8:2) as the mobile phase, followed by visualization under short UV, long UV and after vanillin sulphuric acid derivatization. The formulation was colourless, had a characteristic odour and was free from visible particles and growth. The physicochemical parameters included specific gravity (0.9641), refractive index (1.33206), pH (6.0), viscosity (1.0456), volatile matter (0.23%) and total acidity (0.18). HPTLC revealed distinct chromatographic bands at different Rf values under the respective visualization conditions. These findings provide reference parameters for the identification, authentication, quality assessment and standardization of Trisugandha Arka, supporting reproducible quality and batch-to-batch consistency. |
