| Abstract | Abstract Digital media has increasingly become part of everyday communication, information seeking, and social interaction in rural communities. However, digital transformation cannot be understood merely in terms of whether technology is available; the intensity and pattern of usage also provide important indicators of digital penetration. This study examines the extent and patterns of digital media access and usage among rural communities in Andhra Pradesh, India, using the Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) perspective as the principal theoretical framework. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests of association were employed. The findings indicate a predominantly smartphone-led digital environment. Digital engagement was also substantial. The findings suggest that rural Andhra Pradesh has moved beyond a simple access divide toward a more differentiated pattern of digital participation. The study contributes empirical evidence to the understanding of rural digital diffusion and provides implications for digital-literacy programs, local-language communication, public-service delivery, and responsive digital policy. |
