| Abstract | Geoponics refers to growth of plants in soil, which is the traditional method of agriculture, While soil less cultivation stands for hydroponics (growing in water) and aeroponics (growing in air). In present scenario hydroponic techniques have proven to be far more efficient and crucial to geoponics. The current study provides a comparative analysis of geoponics (soil-based cultivation) and hydroponics (soilless, nutrient-solution based cultivation) to evaluate relative efficacy, enrichment and growth of green leafy vegetables in both the systems. The study emphasizes on the effectiveness of hydroponics techniques over traditional cultivation system. With increasing pressure on high yields, a tremendous demand is laid on supply, land and freshwater, as a consequences modern agriculture requires sustainable alternatives. Experimental findings demonstrate that hydroponic systems promote vegetative growth and increase overall crop yields by up to 25% compared to conventional geoponic methods. Furthermore, the hydroponic techniques achieve a remarkable water savings of over 90% through controlled, recirculating nutrient delivery. Nutrient management, monitored via electrical conductivity (EC) and pH balancing, ensures direct and consistent ion absorption, resulting in superior leaf coloration and higher moisture content. The present paper thus reviews the beneficial aspects of the soilless harvest. |
