| Abstract | Generative AI (GenAI) is transforming software development workflows by introducing intelligent automation across various stages of software engineering. From requirements analysis and system design to code generation, testing, debugging, documentation, and deployment, GenAI-powered tools are enhancing efficiency, productivity, and decision-making throughout the software development process. This study examines the role of Generative AI in modern software development environments and explores its impact on workflow optimization, team collaboration, software quality, and developer productivity. The research is based on a qualitative analysis of existing literature, industry reports, and expert insights related to AI-assisted software engineering practices. The findings indicate that Generative AI significantly reduces development time by automating repetitive tasks, generating code suggestions, creating test cases, and producing technical documentation. It enables developers to focus on complex problem-solving and innovation while improving overall workflow effectiveness. However, the adoption of GenAI also introduces challenges, including code reliability issues, security vulnerabilities, ethical concerns, intellectual property risks, and excessive dependence on AI-generated outputs. The study highlights the importance of human oversight, responsible AI governance, and continuous skill development to ensure effective integration of GenAI into software engineering workflows. The research concludes that Generative AI is not a replacement for software developers but a powerful collaborative technology that reshapes software development workflows through human–AI partnership. Organizations that strategically adopt GenAI while maintaining transparency, accountability, and quality assurance practices can achieve substantial improvements in software development performance and innovation. |
