Abstract Labour contractors play a significant role in supplying and managing manpower across various sectors, including construction, manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, and other industrial activities. They act as intermediaries between employers and workers by recruiting labourers, arranging employment, supervising work, and facilitating wage payments. Despite their important contribution to economic development and employment generation, labour contractors face several challenges related to working conditions, wage administration, labour welfare, occupational safety, legal compliance, and the management of employer–employee relationships.
The present study aims to examine the problems and prospects associated with the working conditions of labour contractors, with particular emphasis on their employment practices, income levels, working hours, job security, occupational health and safety, access to social security benefits, and relationships with employers and workers. The study also seeks to identify the major difficulties faced by labour contractors in meeting the changing demands of the labour market, complying with labour laws, and ensuring fair and transparent employment practices. The findings of the study are expected to contribute to a better understanding of the role of labour contractors in the labour market and provide useful recommendations for improving employment practices, protecting workers’ rights, and promoting sustainable industrial relations.
