Abstract Wine tourism has emerged as a distinctive segment of special-interest tourism that integrates agricultural production, gastronomy, hospitality, cultural experiences, landscape appreciation, and destination marketing. In India, the development of vineyards and wineries, particularly in Maharashtra and Karnataka, has created opportunities to diversify tourism products and strengthen the relationship between regional agriculture and hospitality services. Nashik has become a particularly significant destination because of its concentration of wineries, vineyard experiences, wine festivals, and associated tourism infrastructure. Nevertheless, Indian wine tourism remains an evolving sector influenced by consumer awareness, social and cultural attitudes, accessibility, regulatory differences, infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and the international visibility of Indian wine brands. This paper examines the potential of Indian wine tourism from domestic and international perspectives, focusing on its contribution to destination promotion, regional economic development, visitor experiences, and international tourism competitiveness. The study adopts a qualitative, exploratory approach based on secondary research, including academic publications on wine tourism, research concerning Indian vineyards, and conceptual literature on destination development, experiential marketing, and sustainable tourism. The findings of the thematic analysis suggest that wine tourism can contribute to destination differentiation, rural employment, local entrepreneurship, culinary tourism, and international destination recognition. However, these outcomes depend on coordinated destination management, appropriate infrastructure, authentic cultural experiences, responsible marketing, and the participation of local communities. The paper proposes an integrated development framework connecting vineyard experiences, regional tourism circuits, digital promotion, international partnerships, and environmental management. It concludes that Indian wine tourism should be developed as a diversified regional tourism product rather than as an activity restricted to wine tasting and winery visits.
