Abstract Global legal problems are complex when it comes to the marriage and divorce of mentally disturbed people. Diverse cultural, religious, and legal contexts across the globe make it more difficult to determine whether a person with a mental health illness is competent to marry or divorce; this necessitates striking a careful balance between autonomy and rights protection in many different legal contexts.
