Abstract | This paper explores the complex relationship between parental socio-economic status (SES) and the social achievements of children in India. While economic conditions, educational attainment, and the occupational background of parents significantly influence a child’s access to opportunities, other intersecting factors, such as caste, gender, regional disparities, and policy interventions, also shape outcomes. Drawing on longitudinal data, national surveys, and scholarly literature, this article examines the impact of socioeconomic status (SES) on education, employment, and social mobility in contemporary India. The paper concludes by emphasising the importance of targeted policy measures to mitigate inherited disadvantages and promote equitable social achievement. |
