Managing Effective Socio-Emotional Learning in Schools: An Interplay of Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Skills

Author(s) Dr. PRATIBHA KOHLI
Country India
Abstract The unique interplay between intrapersonal and interpersonal skills forms the core of socio-emotional learning in schools. When students attain maturity in both sets of skills, they become adept at understanding their own emotions, empathising with others, and effectively managing their interactions within the community. This equips them with the emotional skills necessary to thrive in school, college and in life beyond the walls of the classroom. The soft skills that students develop in school metamorphose them into successful individuals in the workplace in the future. It is important to integrate socio-emotional learning in the curricular and co-curricular domains of the school.
The acronym COMPASS is an acronym for educators to keep in mind while at school. The acronym COMPASS stands for emphasising the importance of Collaboration, Optimism, Mindfulness, Positive mindset, Adaptability, Strength, and Satisfaction and hopes that educators will keep this in mind while imparting socio-emotional learning to students.
