Indo US Relations in the Trump 2.0 Era

Author(s) Ms. Anchal Sirohi, Dr. Wijeesh Ronit Saimon

Abstract The Indo-US strategic partnership has evolved significantly in the 21st century, with fluctuating dynamics depending on global geopolitics and the leadership in both countries. This paper examines the trajectory of Indo-US relations in a hypothetical second term of President Donald Trump, referred to here as “Trump 2.0.” With an emphasis on foreign policy continuity, trade, defense collaboration, immigration policy, and regional stability, this study evaluates how Trump's leadership style, “America First” doctrine, and transactional approach to diplomacy could affect the bilateral relationship. It further explores potential areas of synergy and friction, especially in light of the growing Indo-Pacific strategic landscape, India’s rise as a global power, and the increasing complexity of US-China relations. The paper concludes with policy recommendations for India to navigate a second Trump presidency while maximizing national interest and preserving strategic autonomy.
