AI in Decision Making: Replacing Human Intuition in Strategic Management?

| Abstract | The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly altered how organizations approach decision-making, particularly within strategic management. This research investigates whether AI can or should replace human intuition in strategic decision-making processes. While AI offers distinct advantages in terms of speed, consistency, and the capacity to process vast datasets, it faces inherent limitations in areas such as creativity, ethics, contextual understanding, and adaptability—domains traditionally governed by human intuition and experience. The study compares the strengths and weaknesses of human intuition and AI within strategic contexts and explores the growing preference for hybrid decision-making models where both work collaboratively. Such models leverage AI’s data-driven precision alongside human ethical reasoning and emotional intelligence. Furthermore, this paper highlights the ethical, organizational, and cognitive challenges involved in over-relying on AI. The findings suggest that AI cannot fully replicate the nuanced, adaptable, and ethically informed nature of human decision-making. Instead, hybrid models that combine AI capabilities with human intuition offer a more balanced, responsible, and effective approach to strategic management in an increasingly complex and uncertain world. |
