Investigation Of Paste-Based Organic Carbonitriding For Mild Steel Surface Hardening

Author(s) Mr. MOHAMMED UMAR K
Country India
Abstract Mild steel is widely used for its low cost and good ductility, but its low hardness limits wear resistance. Surface hardening methods such as carburizing, nitriding, and carbonitriding are commonly used to improve these properties. Recently, organic and waste-derived materials like charcoal, sugar, eggshell, and urea have been explored as low-cost, eco-friendly carbon and nitrogen sources. This study examines the effect of three such paste compositions on the hardness of mild steel after heat treatment at ~950 °C.
