Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) among the Tea Garden Workers of Panbari Tea Estate in Titabar Sub Division of Jorhat District, Assam

Abstract Early childhood refers to the early years of life starting from birth to six years. These years are called the formative years as the foundation for physical, cognitive, socio-emotional and language development is laid during this period. These years are very important because growth and development of the brain takes place at this stage. The Tea Garden Workers are generally regarded as disadvantaged because of their socio economic condition. Expansion and improvement of comprehensive early childhood care and education, especially for the disadvantaged children have been one of the major goals for achievement of education for all. Early childhood is a crucial stage of life in terms of a child's physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. Growth of mental and physical abilities at an astounding rate and a very high proportion of learning take place from birth to age six. It is the time when children need high quality personal care and learning experiences. It is also the duty of the government and other stakeholders to take special care in this fact. In Indian context the early childhood care and education services is basically provided by the government sectors, private and non-governmental organizations. This Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) were incorporated in the Constitution of India by 86th Constitutional amendment in the year 2002. The present study aims at discussing the present scenario of ECCE among the children of tea garden workers of the study area. It is based on both primary and secondary data sources.
