A Study on the Causes of Gender Discrimination

Author(s) Dr. Chaudhari Neeta Pratapbhai
Country India
Abstract Gender inequality refers to unequal treatment of women and men in laws, policies, and access to resources within families and society. It often appears through delayed medical treatment for girls, preference for lower quality healthcare when daughters are ill, and limited educational or social opportunities for them.
This study used a survey method with a validated questionnaire. The sample included 400 fathers and 400 mothers (total 800 parents) from 16 villages in Mehsana district, Gujarat. Variables such as age, residence, education, occupation, and family income were considered. The study focused on social and educational discrimination against girls. Findings reveal that 100% of respondents showed a high level of gender discrimination, with a significant difference found between fathers and mothers.
Keywords Gender inequality, Medical treatment delay, Healthcare quality, Educational opportunity, Social opportunity, Rural villages, Education, fathers and mothers.
