One Nation, One Election: A Step Towards Electoral Reform in India.

Abstract Nowadays, the concept of one nation one election has become an important issue in a huge democratic country like India. The electoral process is a key foundation of any democratic system, which ensures the participation of every citizen in the development of the country. The concept of one nation one election is to conduct simultaneous elections for Lok sabha and all state Legislative assemblies at the same time.This would allow voters to cast their ballots for both tiers of government on the same day in their constituencies, though voting could still occur in phases across the country. The concept around the one nation one election is to minimize governments election mode, extra expenditure, corruption, risk of policy paralysis and enhance administrative efficiency. The aim of the study is to analyze the possibilities of one nation, one election in India. Apart from this the study also explore its legall and constitutional challenges.
