Abstract “Meta – Talk: How To Uncover The Hidden Meanings In What People Say” a book written by Gerard I. Nierenberg and Henry H. Calereo (1973,1981), publised in 1996, details and deals with Layered Conversations. Layered conversations are those with implicit messages, non-verbal cues and having more than one intention in communications. The quality of the inner layer(s) of converstions is defined by the strength and maturity of the inner self of the individual. The intended outcome of the inner layer of conversations are often missed or difficult to decipher, if the receiver of the communication is not actively listening. During such conversations, the tone, tenor, facial expressions, gestures, pace of delivery and body language tend to differ from the words that are spoken. This contrast or contradiction of the words and the other parts of communication indicates the layered conversation.

This article attempts to explore the Meta-Talk in our ancient text Purananooru and present the same.
