Challenges and Income of Gig Workers: A Case Study of Delivery Boys and Girls Working in Parcel and Logistics Companies in Basar, Lepa Rada District, Arunachal Pradesh.

| Abstract | This study examines the income pattern, working conditions, and challenges faced by delivery boys and girls working in logistics companies in Basar town of Lepa Rada District, Arunachal Pradesh. Primary data were collected through personal interviews and structured questionnaires from 31 delivery workers employed in Delhivery Limited, Ekart, Valmo, and Expressbee. The findings reveal that delivery workers are paid on a per-parcel basis, work long hours, and have limited awareness of social security schemes such as the e-Shram portal, National Career Service (NCS) portal. Although Delhivery Limited provides relatively better facilities and insurance coverage, overall employment conditions remain informal. The study highlights the need for policy intervention to improve income stability, social security coverage, and awareness among gig workers and unorganised workers in remote regions. Much of the gig economy boomed during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it came in handy for delivery of food, essentials, and transportation services, which was hugely affected during the pandemic. Study also reveals that for recruiting as delivery boy and girls in parcel and logistics delivery, person must attain 18years of age and above, can read and write, can access internet and mobile, can have Aadhar card, driving license and can drive two wheelers or four wheelers. Minimum education qualification and maximum education qualification are not mandatory for recruitment as delivery boy and girls. The study will reveal, how much of amount delivery boys and girls receive from per parcel after delivering parcel to the customer. The study will help to understand the different types of parcels they deliver to customer at different rate. The working environment of parcel and logistics delivery company can unearth through the study and data collected from delivery boys and girls of the parcel and logistics delivery limited exist in Basar, Lepa Rada, Arunachal Pradesh. |
