Abstract Abstract
This study examines the electoral performance of regional political parties in Rajasthan Assembly elections between 2008 and 2023. The analysis focuses on selected regional and minor parties—Bahujan Samaj Party, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal, and Bharat Adivasi Party—within a predominantly bipolar party system dominated by national political parties. The study is based entirely on secondary data drawn from official statistical reports published by the Election Commission of India. This paper highlights structural constraints within Rajasthan’s electoral system. At the same time, the study shows that parties with geographically concentrated social support have been relatively more successful in translating limited vote share into seats. The paper contributes to the literature on state-level party systems by offering a comparative and empirical understanding of the role of regional political parties in Rajasthan.
