Author(s) Mr. Uddhava Biswal

Abstract The global food system plays an important role in economic development, environmental sustainability, food security and social harmony. This study examines the relationship between vegetarian food systems, economic growth, and world peace with special reference to India. Vegetarian diets are more resource efficient than animal-based diets because they require less land, water, and energy. The study is based on secondary data collected from books, journals, reports of international organizations and published research articles. The findings indicate that plant-based food systems help reduce environmental degradation, greenhouse gas emissions, healthcare expenditure, and pressure on natural resources. Vegetarian diets also improve food security, agricultural productivity, and rural employment opportunities. The paper further highlights the ethical and cultural importance of vegetarianism in India through the principle of Ahimsa and Ayurveda. The study concludes that vegetarian food systems can contribute significantly to sustainable economic development, environmental protection, social stability, and long-term global peace.
