| Abstract | The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of 1919 remains one of the most significant and tragic events in the history of British India. The Massacre occurred on 13th April 1919 in Amritsar, Punjab where British soldiers led by General Dyer fired at a crowd of civilians. This research paper examines the political, social and psychological impact of the massacre on Indian society and the Indian independence movement. Politically the massacre deepened the nationalist sentiments among the Indians and weakened their trust in the British administration. Socially, it brought together Indians from various sectors against the British. Psychologically, the massacre created fear, trauma and collective anger among Indians while strengthening the desire for freedom. The paper argues that the Jallianwala Bagh massacre became a turning point in India’s struggle for independence and significantly influenced anti-colonial movements across the country. |
