| Abstract | Abstract The Pangwal tribe is one of the lesser-known yet culturally rich tribal communities of Himachal Pradesh. The tribe mainly inhabits the remote and rugged region of the Pangi Valley in Chamba district. Located in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas, the valley is known for its natural beauty and harsh living conditions. Despite geographical isolation, the Pangwal community has preserved its distinct culture, traditions, and identity for generations. Their lifestyle reflects a close relationship with nature, local customs, and social values. The Pangwal tribe forms an important part of the tribal heritage of the Indian Himalayas. The study of such indigenous communities contributes to a better understanding of tribal history, culture, and social organization. Tribal societies are influenced by factors such as religion, language, environment, and social traditions, which continue to shape their present identity. The Pangwal community also presents an example of how traditional practices survive while adapting to modern influences and changing social conditions. This study explores the historical and cultural aspects of the Pangwal tribe and examines the changing social, cultural, and economic life of the community. It also highlights the coexistence of traditional values and modern influences in shaping the contemporary identity of the Pangwal people. |
