Factors Affecting the Reliability of Eyewitness Testimony in Criminal Investigation

Abstract	This present study is focused on analyzing the psychological and situational factors affecting the reliability of eyewitness testimony in criminal investigations and this study is done through qualitative method and also using secondary data analysis and case study method.there are five case studies that are discussed here are = Jennifer Thompson & Ronald Cotton , The central park five , Kirk Bloodsworth , Timothy Cole and Gary Dotson. For the data analysis , the thematic analysis was used to showcase the psychological and situational factors The findings suggest that the reliability of the eyewitness testimony is influenced by several psychological factors = memory distortion , confidence-accuracy differences , honest memory errors , stress and suggestibility. The analysis also showed that these factors often work together with the situational factors and this study highlights the limitations of human memory and emphasizes the importance of eyewitness testimony with scientific and forensic evidence.
