Panchavayava Vakya as a Cognitive-Iterative Research Pentad: A Novel Framework for Integrative Medicine

| Abstract | Panchavayava Vakya, the classical five-membered logical framework described in Ayurveda and Nyaya philosophy, has traditionally been interpreted as a linear structure for inference and debate. However, this perspective may not fully reflect its role in Ayurvedic reasoning or its relevance to contemporary scientific inquiry, where iterative and systems-based approaches have become increasingly important. The present conceptual study reinterprets Panchavayava Vakya as a cognitive-iterative model of knowledge generation through classical textual analysis of the Charaka Samhita, followed by theoretical synthesis with modern concepts of complexity science and research methodology. By conceptualizing Panchavayava Vakya as a recursive research engine, this study establishes a theoretical bridge between classical Ayurvedic epistemology and modern scientific methodologies, highlighting its potential to inform adaptive, context-sensitive, and complexity-oriented research frameworks. This reinterpretation not only enhances the contemporary relevance of Ayurvedic logic but also provides a robust conceptual foundation for developing innovative research methodologies capable of addressing the multidimensional nature of integrative medicine. Further interdisciplinary and empirical investigations are warranted to validate and operationalize this framework in research and clinical practice. |
