Ethical Issues in English Language Use: A Literature Review
| Author(s) | Dr. Manoj Kumar Kalita |

| Abstract | This study examines ethical issues in English language use through a comprehensive literature review of 40 scholarly sources, of which 30 cited studies were selected for analysis. Adopting a qualitative and analytical approach, the research explores ethical concerns across teaching, assessment, academic writing, research practices, and communication. The findings reveal that ethical issues are closely linked to fairness, power relations, cultural identity, and academic integrity. The dominance of English as a global language facilitates communication but also raises challenges such as linguistic inequality, marginalisation of local languages, and bias in assessment and authorship practices. The study highlights the need for inclusive and culturally sensitive approaches in English Language Teaching and emphasises the importance of ethical awareness among educators and researchers. It concludes that ethical considerations are essential for responsible language use and calls for the development of frameworks to address emerging challenges in digital and multilingual contexts. |
